Yalumba The Steeple Single Vineyard Shiraz 2019, Barossa Valley, AUD $80

The centenarian Steeple vineyard at Light Pass, planted in 1919, is so named because it’s next-door to a church.

An interesting meaty/smoky/earthy bouquet with a trace of brown spices, the colour still bright and purple-tinted, while some bottle development is just beginning to show on the nose. It’s full-bodied, rich and fruit-sweet at the core with fruitcake, dark chocolate and vanilla nuances. Good concentration. Tannins are ample and supple, adding a grainy, powdery and pleasantly drying texture. (Screwcap)
