Grosses Gewächs of Germany Feature Week

Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenau Felseneck Riesling Großes Gewächs 2023, Germany, EUR €68

A ninth generation winemaking family with 200 years of history, Tim Fröhlich’s small estate is blessed with some of the Nahe’s finest sites, including the rocky, forest-capped Felseneck, the finest site in Bockenau high up on the banks of the Ellerbach river valley (a tributary of the Nahe). He finds that these strong VDP.Grosse Lage® sites are most expressive when allowed to undergo spontaneous fermentation.

Lifted perfume, citrus peel, zest and floral notes caress the very elegant, feathery powder-dry palate. Almost ethereal with delicacy and layers of subtlety, a wine of air and light.
