Wooden stakes are ready to support newly planted vines in one of Europe’s oldest vineyards. Öreg Király, or the Old King’s Hill, in Hungary’s Tokaji region has been famous for wine since at least 1737, when it was declared one of the top vineyard sites in the region. Of course, it was probably famous for many years prior. The vineyard is now owned by the Barta family, who make a number of different wines from the famous slope, and have spent considerable funds and effort rehabilitating the site.
