A $6.89 Costco find, we review the Vinha Da Coutada Velha Red from Monte da Ravasqueira.
A blend of 30% Aragonez (Tempranillo), 30% Trincadeira, 30% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from Alentejano, Portugal. The wine ages 4 months in used French oak barrels and has just 1.3 g/L of residual sugar.
The Vinha Da Coutada Velha has an SRP of $20 but we found it for just $6.89 at Costco. It’s typically a few dollars more elsewhere. It is imported by Tri-Vin Imports.

The wine is originally from a Coutada at Herdade da Mata. A Coutada is a private reserve where for decades the vision was to preserve and enhance the biodiversity of this region. From the vines of Coutada Velha was born this wine that present some complexity and structure and that seeks to surprise by its rich and complex aroma, and its harmonious long and persistent end.

The Monte da Ravasqueira 2020 Vinha Da Coutada Velha Red Blend opens with lots of sweet smelling berry fruit, touches of spice and vanilla and some floral notes.
The wine taste smooth, fresh and easy to drink and features similar flavors to the nose. Surprisingly it only has 1.3 g/L of residual sugar as it tastes like it has more sugary sweetness to it. It’s a bit on the simple side, but satisfying nonetheless.
