Anchorage Wines Sauvignon Blanc 2023, Nelson, NZD $20
Nelson, just over the Rai Valley from Marlborough, may be best known for excellent chardonnay, pinot noir and Alsatian aromatic white varieties like gewürztraminer, pinot gris and riesling, but the majority of vines in the region are actually sauvignon blanc. The style tends to be more tropical and less obviously herbaceous than Marlborough.
Open and expressive fruit on the nose: elderflower, passionfruit and bay leaf. The palate is crisp, vibrant and zingy with a strong seam of acidity running through the linear palate, finishing with tart Granny Smith apple and a bit of phenolic chewiness. Varietal and familiar. (Screwcap)
