Yelland & Papps Single Vineyard Roussanne 2022, Barossa Valley, AUD $46
Originally from the Rhône Valley, roussanne is a difficult grape to get right. Fair to say there are more misses than hits in Australia. This roussanne from Yelland & Papps is a beauty: they’ve created a textured and complex style with great ageing potential.
Notes of yellow nectarine, blossom and honey on the nose make way for a textured core. Pleasing bitter phenolics on the finish add dimension. It feels a touch constrained in its youth, but with a year or so in bottle, layers should evolve. (Screwcap)
