Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown Thorley Riesling 2021, Beechworth, AUD $58

Thorley is Jeremy Schmölzer and Tessa Brown’s own vineyard on their farm.

Pale and bright in the glass. Dried mango, nettle and sea spray aromas. Tense and powerful on entry, loaded with lemon zest, saline tension and hints of gun smoke, and a hint of residual sugar adds to the textural elements. Acidity is taut and coiled, providing a springboard to drive the palate very long where dry extract phenolics ensure the long finish is bone dry. So much tension and focus that sends a tingle down the spine. It has many years in front of it. (Screwcap)
