Despite these misgivings, I confess I loved the latest St Hugo Daniel Ricciardo DR3 red wines. They are the 2021 vintages of Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon and South Australian shiraz.
Just how good the cabernet is, was underlined by its performance in the 2023 Global Fine Wine Challenge, which I helped judge late last year. The 2021 St Hugo DR3 Cabernet Sauvignon (AUD $80) won a double-gold medal, and 97 points.
I had rated the 2021 DR3 Shiraz (AUD $80) a strong silver ribbon (94 points) earlier in the year.
