Pizzini Forza Di Ferro Sangiovese 2022, King Valley, AUD $65

The Pizzini family are one of the pioneers of growing Italian grape varieties in Australia. They planted their first vineyard in the King Valley in 1978 and released their first wines thirty years ago. This wine is an homage to the great sangiovese wines of Tuscany, whether it be Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti Classico Riserva or a Super Tuscan. The wine is archetypal sangiovese in its wild, earthy blue and red fruitedness and signature, savoury, textured tannins. It’s a wine that deserves the finest cut of beef.

Cherry red in the glass, vibrant and enticing. Lifted aromas of dark cherry, bramble, ferrous earth, pot pourri and raspberry pastille. There’s a lovely drive of red and blue fruits on the mid-weighted palate, along with earth, spice and textured, grainy tannins. The flavours are complex, savoury and multi-faceted and there’s impressive length on the finish. A really lovely sangiovese. (Screwcap)
