Cape Mentelle Marri Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, Margaret River, AUD $22
Cape Mentelle is one of Margaret River’s trailblazing wineries, established in 1970 in the early days of this iconic wine producing region. Cape Mentelle has made benchmark cabernet sauvignon from the early days, winning the fabled Jimmy Watson Trophy in both 1983 and 1984. This wine delivers plenty of ‘Margs’ cabernet sophistication, sense of place and typicity and delivers big time in value.
Dark, inky and opaque in the glass. Heady aromas of bramble, blackberry, graphite, cedar and lead pencil. Some quite classic cabernet aromas. Juicy, dark fruited, with opulence and firm tannin. There’s a real density, fleshiness and purity of fruit, as well as structured tannins and snappy acidity. Really smart, archetypal cabernet and top value. (Screwcap)
