, Quinta do Noval 50 Year Old Tawny Port: A new and different dimension

Quinta do Noval has become the latest Port shipper to enter the fortified wine’s newest/oldest age-dated Tawny Port category, with the launch of Quinta do Noval 50 Year Old Tawny Port. 

Launched in October, 2024, Quinta do Noval 50 Year Old Tawny Port joins a small but growing list of wines from producers taking up the new category, which was formally introduced by the Instituto dos Vinhos do Porto e do Douro (IVDP) in January, 2022. 

Made from what the shipper calls a “traditional multi-varietal field blend” of, among others, Touriga Nacional, Sousão, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Francesa, the grapes are foot-trodden in stone lagares, and the finished bottling is a blend with an average age of 50 years, aged in seasoned 640-liter oak casks.

“Noval has always been known as a Port house capable of producing both great Vintage Ports and old Tawny Ports, and this wine is a supreme expression of the Noval style of Tawny Ports, and a culmination of our constant pursuit of excellence,” said Noval managing director, Christian Seely, of the launch.
