Pineywoods Vineyard is a family-owned-and-operated vineyard and winery tucked away in the picturesque landscape of the pine forests of Deep East Texas. Our journey today is taking us first to their charming tasting room and event center in historic downtown Hemphill, Texas. As we arrived, we couldn’t help but notice that the historic building is undergoing major renovations.
We were quickly greeted by owners Chris and Jordon Cox who invited us to sit down to a beautiful charcuterie board that was waiting for our arrival. We soon discovered that Pineywoods Vineyard started as a result of Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Chris and Jordon were residing in Houston and decided that living in a giant bayou was not the wisest of choices. Jordon’s family has lived in the Hemphill area for several generations, so when he suggested they move back to Deep East Texas, Chris said, “Well then, we are starting a vineyard.” The land for the vineyard was prepped in 2018 and the planting completed in March of 2019. The tasting room was opened in January of 2024.
