Mount Difficulty Roaring Meg Riesling 2023, Central Otago, NZD $23
Riesling has always been a Central Otago stalwart, even though it has lost ground over the years (as it has almost everywhere outside of Germany and Alsace). The very cool climate’s tangy acidity lends itself to the variety particularly well, across all levels of sweetness. The most common is off-dry and this second label wine from Mt Difficulty shows how at ease the variety is here.
Fleshy, textural riesling in an off-dry style with a drying and moderately lengthy finish. Tangy, mouth watering wine that builds pleasant sweet/sour tension and has a lengthy finish that impresses. (Screwcap)
