I was cooking a Thai curry when the oven timer sounded, which was odd because I don’t use the oven to cook Thai curry. A quick check revealed that the timer wasn’t on but the sound continued. Beep! Beep!
Why do all my devices sound the same? Beep! Beep!
It must have been the fridge’s freezer timer reminding me that my bottle of wine (Felton Road Bannockburn Riesling) had been in the freezer for 20 minutes and might explode if I left it any longer. A glance at the monitor on the fridge door showed that I hadn’t set the timer. Beep! Beep!
It wasn’t a smoke alarm. Beep! Beep!

It wasn’t the temperature alarm on my wine storage units or my Apple Watch.
It was … a magpie sitting on a telephone wire hoping to attract his mate with a tune he’d picked up from somewhere in my kitchen.
