Phil Long is founder of Longevity Wines and the President of the Association of African American Vintners (AAAV). Phil and his wife, Debra, founded Longevity in 2008 when they started making wine as a hobby in their garage in Livermore, California. Avid wine drinkers and lovers of wine country, “wine is part of the fabric of life in Northern California,” Phil said. The brand quickly grew, and in just 10 years they were named Livermore Valley’s winery of the year.
Debra came up with the name Longevity, and Phil designed the iconic heart as part of their logo. Phil gave Debra artisan glass hearts every Valentine’s Day, and over the years she built quite the collection. The Longevity heart logo has many hearts within it, in addition to grapes and vines, to symbolize their love for wine and one another.
Sadly, Debra passed away in 2019 of pancreatic cancer. Phil has that same heart logo tattooed on his sleeve and on every bottle of Longevity made. “She knows she will always be with me, and part of every step of the journey.” Phil’s son, Phil Jr., has been his Assistant Winemaker since 2016.
Purpose has always played a role in Phil’s life, but even stronger after
