Dirty Three All the Dirts Chardonnay 2023, Gippsland, AUD $55

Gippsland is among the most exciting Victorian breeding grounds for new talent. It’s a great place to explore and start a new label. While Marcus Satchell isn’t a new kid on the block (back in the day he worked with Philip Jones at Bass Phillip) his wines have an X factor which makes them utterly delicious and original.

Subtle wafts of brioche and nougat mix with crushed rocks and white button mushrooms on the nose. The palate is buoyed by a vibrant core of spiced apples and lemon curd. A line of acidity puckers the cheeks and teases the taste buds. This wine takes you on a delightful ride: it’s a premium modern Aussie chardonnay. I would love to see it with a little more time under its belt to flesh out the core and tame its ‘wild child’ antics. (Screwcap)
