Great Britain’s wine industry is booming. One of the fastest wine-growing regions in the world, the region has seen a staggering 123% growth in vineyards—which recently surpassed 1,000—over the last decade. It’s hardly surprising, then, that wine tourism is also on a steep incline. 

The beating heart of Britain’s wine industry is in England’s southeast, where around 70% of the nation’s wineries are located less than two hour’s drive—or train journey—from London. Wine-loving visitors to counties like Sussex and Kent are now spoiled for choice when it comes to world class tasting rooms, restaurants and other winery experiences, all within a short drive, bike or hike from centuries old castles, cathedrals and medieval seaside towns. 

The last frontier was lodging, but Britain has now caught up here, too, with a recent explosion of charming, luxurious and occasionally quirky winery accommodations now available to book. 

Tucked down narrow, hedgerow-lined lanes, nestled beside the vines, perched on a river bank or housed above a pub, these lodgings are distinctly British.
