Symphony Hill Wines Reserve Petit Verdot 2021, Limestone Coast, AUD $65

A wine made from 100% petit verdot should come with a ‘brave and fearless’ badge for the maker. Its gruff nature and abundance of tannins usually make it a very minor component in Bordeaux blends. Grown in South Australia’s Limestone Coast, this petit verdot has been tamed and turned into a wonderful expression.

A mass of black fruits and spices on the nose—plums, cherries and allspice. The palate is fleshy and ripe, the fruit has been harvested with freshness, bringing clarity. It’s a classy wine, oak playing an important role. Bordeaux lovers take note. (Screwcap)
