O Naturel Organic Pinot Noir 2023, Central Otago, NZD $35
O Naturel is a wonderful, small winery and vineyard run by Lucie and Brook Lawrence, whom most will know as the couple behind the delicious wines of the late Aurum Vineyard. Their vineyard is actually located across the road from where Aurum used to be, but on a slope heading up to Burn Cottage. Their focus is to make small batch, soulful, organic wine with no additions but pricing it as low as they can while still being able to live (they both work second jobs for other wineries) so that fine wine remains accessible to the new generation of wine lovers.
Seed and root spice, earth and black fruit aromas lift off in layers. The palate is plush and flows from start to finish with gentle, open-knit fruit and powder-fine tannins. Turmeric and orange on the end. New Wave in style with accessible and transparent fruit which is nonetheless concentrated and layered. (Screwcap)
