Hallgarten & Novum Wines has expanded its Italian wine portfolio with the addition of Montalcino-based producer, Banfi. Hallgarten will exclusively represent all Banfi’s wines and family estates, coordinating distribution across UK hospitality and retail sectors. The introduction of Banfi marks a wider portfolio expansion, as the distributor gears up for its two-day trade tasting, at Old Billingsgate, London, on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th January, where it will showcase more than 1,000 wines from across its portfolio. “I was absolutely enamoured when I first tasted the wines of Banfi – world-class is truly the only way to describe them,” said Jim Wilson, portfolio director at Hallgarten Wines. “To say I am excited to welcome them into our portfolio is an understatement; I am confident there will be a huge appetite for the wines when we pour them at our Annual Tasting in January.” Wilson added that Banfi was just, “one of a number” of Italian producers Hallgarten was looking to add in the next couple of months. “There is so much diversity in Italy, with producers across the nation creating wines that represent great value for money and styles that are perfectly suited to the UK palate, and we are determined to bring these wines to the public,” Wilson said. Founded in 1978 by Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, Banfi is based out of Castello di Poggio alle Mura, in the southwest of Montalcino, near Sant’Angelo Scalo.
