Proponents of alternative wine packaging will be pleased to hear of the Frugal Bottle, a bottle made of 94% recycled paper, launched recently by Mother Of Pearl Vodka.

Their vodka is being rolled out in several markets as we speak. Wine is to be packaged in this bottle too, which will cheer the hearts of those who believe the world has stuck with the ubiquitous glass bottle far too long—to the detriment of the environment.

“The Frugal Bottle’s outer part is made using 94% recycled paperboard,” says co-founder of Mother Of Pearl Vodka, Nicola Thompson Hancock.

“The inner pouch is polypropylene and the neck is PET plastic. The outer paperboard can be placed with cardboard recycling and the inner pouch can be placed with mixed plastics for recycling.”

It is five times lighter than a ‘normal’ glass bottle, a has a carbon footprint six times lower than the glass bottle. Compared to plastic bottles, it has up to 77% less plastic.
