D’Arenberg D’Arry’s Original Grenache Shiraz 2021, McLaren Vale, AUD $22

The late D’Arry Osborn was the father of present winemaker Chester Osborn. His first name, and the winery name, is the maiden name of D’Arry’s mother. The wines are always full of character, even the cheaper bottles, like this one.

Deep, bright red-purple colour with an intense dark-fruit aroma laced with a lift of alcohol and possible a trace of VA—which the wine easily carries. There’s vanilla and chocolate, too, while the texture is dense and rich, the tannins ample if not exactly refined. A massive amount of red wine for the price. (Screwcap)
