Koerner Gullyview Vineyard Riesling 2022, Clare Valley, AUD $50
The grapes were grown on limestone-based soil and 70% of the wine was raised in amphora. The back-label tells us that 70ppm of SO2 was added, which will keep the wine fresh and protect it from oxidation.
With a very light colour, this fresh and youthful riesling has a nutty/cashew bouquet that seems to suggest barrel involvement, but in fact it’s been raised in amphora. There are lemony fruit and chalky/steely/mineral notes. Honey touches are starting to emerge. The wine is rich and generous as well as refined on the tongue, dry and refreshing while the acidity is seamless. A very smart riesling in a slightly left-field style. (Diam)
